Washington Commanders (2-1) rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels has officially arrived and is quickly earning praise from his peers and pundits alike.

After a dominant performance in Washington’s 38-33 Week 3 road victory over the Cincinnati Bengals (0-3) on Monday Night Football, Daniels received a shoutout from Kirk Herbstreit. Even as he watched his beloved Bengals get torched by the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Herbstreit couldn’t help but acknowledge Daniels’ impressive showing.

“I’m a bengals fan but damn…how good is Jayden Daniels as a rookie?!?? Not just the physical ability..but the composure and understanding of the scheme! Playing with ridiculous poise on the big stage on MNF on the road. Absolutely the REAL DEAL,” Herbstreit wrote on X. “Gotta tip your cap man. Also great job by Kliff Kingsbury for being in sync with his boys-Impressive!!”

Daniels and the Commanders came into Monday’s matchup as underdogs, but it didn’t take long for them to shed that label. The Commanders found the end zone on their first four possessions of the game, Daniels showing a complete command of the offense.

Jayden Daniels has breakout performance on Monday Night Football

With 9:54 remaining in the third quarter, Daniels found backup offensive tackle Trent Scott for his first career touchdown pass. That will be the first of many for Daniels and proved to be the first of two on the night. His second came on Washington’s final offensive drive, finding wideout Terry McLaurin for a 27-yard score on a go route.

Third-and-7 at a time where the Commanders were up by just five, a throw like that took guts. Daniels took a hit as he let it go but stood tall in the pocket and delivered a perfect ball to McLaurin for the game-winning score.

Daniels finished the night 21-of-23 for 254 yards and two touchdowns. He added 12 carries for 39 yards and a score. His 91% completion rate is the highest for a rookie quarterback in a single game in NFL history.

Special shows early, and it certainly looks like the Commanders have found a special one in Daniels.
