Last night, Kyle Busch raced against his son Brexton for the first time in a Winged Sprint A-class race at Millbridge Speedway. Not only a major milestone for 9-year-old Brexton, but a much-needed distraction for the two-time NASCAR champion.

Kyle Busch has taken up dirt racing as his son Brexton has started racing. Last season, Busch was the track champion at Millbridge Speedway for the Wednesday night series. We saw both Busch’s compete at Tulsa earlier this year as well.

After showing his son who the boss still is, Kyle finished P3. Brexton brought it home P6. But it was about more than just racing. Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports caught up with Busch after the race last night.

“It doesn’t do anything for our race or anything like that for Sunday,” Busch said. “It doesn’t give you any prep or nothing. You know, it’s just out here to have fun, let loose, get in the seat, get the heart rate up, that sort of stuff. But as far as dirt racing to NASCAR racing, there’s no correlation.”

It does help him not think too much about his full-time gig, though. A little Wednesday night fun playing in the dirt never hurt anybody, and it can serve as a nice distraction. After all, everyone talks about Kyle Larson and Christopher Bell racing dirt all the time. Busch is racing weekly at Millbridge.

“Yeah, I try to forget about Sundays as soon as Sunday’s over, but it’s kind of hard to do. You gotta go through Monday meetings and sometimes Tuesday meetings in order to kind of go through and dissect everything about the car and your weekend and how you can improve and make it better. Obviously, on Wednesday, we’re already focused on the next week and trying to prepare again for the next one.”

Kyle Busch could use a good Sunday at Martinsville

This week, when it comes to NASCAR action, Kyle Busch and the rest of the Cup Series are going to Martinsville. The Paperclip is ready to bring some real short-track action to the schedule.

Kyle Busch hasn’t had a top-10 finish at Martinsville since 2022 with Joe Gibbs Racing. Five races with a finish of P16 or worse. His average Martinsville finish with RCR is P23. Not great numbers on this track that used to be so good for Busch.

Between 2015 and 2021, Busch had an average finish of 5.9 in 13 races at Martinsville. He had two wins in that time and never finished worse than P19.

Is it time for Busch and RCR to turn things around at Martinsville? It sure would be nice for the No. 8 team after two rough weeks on the track.
