Now two months since their fight after the All-Star Race at North Wilkesboro, Kyle Busch has gone in-depth on what happened that night between he and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show” Friday, Busch said he knew walking up to his hauler after the race that Stenhouse likely wanted to fight. Before Stenhouse threw the first punch, the two shared a conversation. Busch let his guard down a bit and Stenhouse took advantage.

“So, while I was walking up, I saw him there. And I’m like, ‘OK, he’s gonna be pissed, he’s gonna wanna fight.’ And so, he starts talking and I’m like, ‘he’s cool, calm, collected, everything’s fine.’ My guard — started letting my guard down. And then I was giving my reasonings of everything and he wasn’t happy with my reasonings. But I saw it coming,” Busch said. “He gave me enough notice of the shoulder pullback to where I was starting to turn around. And I elbowed up. I didn’t get clobbered too bad.”

If you recall, Busch dumped Stenhouse on Lap 2 of the 200-lap exhibition, ending Stenhouse’s night. Stenhouse vowed he’d wait for him after the race and that’s exactly what he did.

Busch said he remembers giving Stenhouse the nickname “Wrecky Spinhouse” after an incident between them years ago at Daytona, which happened to stick. As Busch said, “he has been known to crash a lot of stuff.”

Kyle Busch recalls giving nickname to Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

“He has been known to crash a lot of stuff,” Busch said. “Essentially got let go from one of his teams because he wrecked too much. He just crashed a lot, sometimes even on his own. … There was another race a few years earlier where we’re racing at Daytona and just out of nowhere, he gets into my left rear and spins me out and crashes me. I don’t think he really even meant to, but it happened.

“I wasn’t too thrilled about it. And so, I made up my own nickname [Wrecky Spinhouse Jr.] for him and he wasn’t appreciative of that. And that was it, I never really talked about it again after that. … After the fight, he was like, ‘I punched him because he always keeps talking crap about me.’ And I’m like, ‘No, I only did that once after you wrecked me and never again.'”

Kyle Busch, Ricky Stenhouse friendly before All-Star Race fight

But when it came to North Wilkesboro, the last thing Busch imagined was getting into a fight with Stenhouse. Two months prior to the All-Star Race, Busch said Stenhouse bought a toterhome from him and the two even hung out at a Cirque du Soleil show in Charlotte.

Busch thought they were on good terms, but evidently, that wasn’t the case.

“Even funnier story about this whole thing is two months prior to the fight happening, Ricky brought a toterhome from me to go travel up and down the road for his racecar program. We’re talking and we’re fine. Wouldn’t call us friends, but we’re acquaintances,” Busch said. “We actually all hung out together at a Cirque du Soleil show in Charlotte one night. We’re all hanging out, everything’s fine and then all of sudden, I’m getting punched in the face.”
