Kyle Busch dejected after wreck in practice: 'Impossible'

After another prerace mishap, Kyle Busch isn’t sure what to do. The two-time Cup Series champion was dejected after qualifying. Of course, he didn’t get to make a qualifying lap and will start in the rear of tomorrow’s NASCAR race at Texas.

Kyle Busch and Richard Childress Racing have not been clicking since late last season. What started out as a wonderful pairing, three wins in a season, ended with frustration. The equipment is not holding up to the standards Rowdy has, or his driving style.

Busch will start in the rear and try to make the most of his day. Talking to the media after he wrecked his car in practice, Busch was flat and honestly, seemed pissed off.

“Developed six numbers tight the run before, came in lowered the nose a half a round and went out and spun out,” Busch explained, via Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports.

Asked if it was the same as in the fall, yeah more or less.

“Yeah you break traction and crash, so that’s pretty much it.”

As for the task of moving up through the field? Kyle Busch doesn’t have hope for that, either. It is not a great mindset, but probably the realistic one.

“Impossible but not near impossible. So, we’ll see, I don’t know. It’s just hard to pass here and you know, long runs take shape and if you can’t get yourself through traffic you can go a lap down in a hurry, have a long day.”

The worst of it all? The car was never set up in a way Busch was comfortable. He was fast, but had no control of it. This goes beyond a minor issue, it’s been persistent for months at this point.

“No. On edge already. … I wasn’t at 100%, that’s for sure. Car had speed but you know, 90% was already on edge, trying not to crash.”

If he isn’t held back on a bad pit stop, then his car fails mechanically. It feels like if it isn’t one thing it’s another for Kyle Busch. Busch has the talent to succeed. Richard Childress Racing has to wake up and decide they want to change, too.

This is an organization that is acting like it is still Pre-2022. Either catch up with the Next Gen era or keep falling short. Honestly, if this organization isn’t already thinking about major overhauls to the crew and possibly bringing one of those Xfinity drivers to the big leagues, then they need to start.
