Kyle Busch earns pole award ahead of Enjoy Illinois 300 at WWT Raceway
Could a win be on the agenda for Kyle Busch this weekend? He will start on the pole for the Enjoy Illinois 300 tomorrow. With a solid mix of manufacturers in the final round of qualifying, Busch put his Chevy on top with a blazing-fast 30.802-second lap ahead of some talented NASCAR drivers.
It didn’t look like anyone was going to be able to even sniff Kyle Busch at the top of the board. However, there was a moment where it looked like Ryan Blaney might steal the pole award from Rowdy. He was just short.
The No. 8 3CHI Chevy is starting on the pole for Sunday. Last year with Joe Gibbs Racing, Busch finished P2 to Joey Logano. Could he be eyeing a little bit of revenge this time around?
This qualifying session was interesting. From practice to the final round of qualifying, the track changed a ton. That hot sun was beating down on the asphalt and you could tell it by watching these cars zip around the track.
World Wide Technology Raceway is a fun venue. With a solid mix of Fords and Toyotas at the top of qualifying, we should expect a competitive race. Ryan Blaney, last week’s Coca-Cola 600 winner carried that momentum into a great starting position in St. Louis. I’m sure he’s looking for back-to-back wins if possible.

Kyle Busch starting up front for Enjoy Illinois 300
Rowdy is going to have a great view of the track when the Enjoy Illinois 300 gets underway. WWT Raceway is a track that these Cup Series drivers aren’t super familiar with. However, based on last year’s race and this qualifying session, Busch seems to have a thing for it.
Last year’s winner Joey Logano will also be in the mix. He was in that final round of qualifying. If Team Penske gets that 22 tuned up right, we could have a replay of last year’s finish. Of course, 300 miles will be the judge of that.
Kyle Busch might be on the upswing again. Busch has had back-to-back top-10 finishes in the Cup Series leading up to this race. He spun out last week and still charged to a P6 finish. So, he could cap off that run with his third win of the season.
Keep an eye on Rowdy this Sunday.
