Right before the end of Stage 2 of the Enjoy Illinois 300, Kyle Larson and Kyle Busch got into each other and went into the wall. Well, at least Busch did. The NASCAR champion was not happy afterward.

Kyle Busch has not had the best luck lately. It is not a secret that he is upset with the way that he has been racing and the speed his Richard Childress Racing cars have had. Today will not make his mood any better.

Busch had this to say after leaving the care center:

“I’m sure it’s my fault,” Busch said sarcastically. “Hate it for my guys, everybody on the Rebel Camaro. We can’t afford days like this. So, hate it for them and trying to race for a playoff spot and gradually falling [in the standings] there a bit and just – yeah he got loose and wiped us out.”

While Busch was sarcastic about it being his fault, Kyle Larson did feel like it was the fault of the 8 car, ultimately. Larson and his crew were heard on the radio talking about the wreck afterward.

“I mean, he turned into me,” Larson said.

“Yeah, he f***ing crowded you down like a total idiot,” a crew member was heard replying.

Sounds like another bit of drama in the NASCAR Cup Series to me. Then again, it might just be a passing thing in the heat of the moment. Busch and his team have a lot more important things to worry about than another petty beef.

Kyle Busch struggling in 2024

Last year, Gateway was Kyle Busch’s brightest moment. It was the peak of his season. The third of his three wins on the year, it was really the last complete race he had before the end of 2023.

In that race a year ago, Busch had the pole, both stages, and the race win. It was a perfect day. This year, it was a nightmare in comparison. Even if Busch wasn’t going to race for the win today, he had a shot to race for a top-5.

There are a few drivers who are looking for a break this season. Busch might be on the top of that list. Speed isn’t there, pit stops aren’t there, and consistency is nowhere to be seen. He led laps today, but he never got to see his strategy play out.

Kyle Busch did not need a DNF today. He needed to at least finish in the top-10. Now, it’s on to Sonoma and hoping things work out there. A week-to-week basis, this team is searching for the right moment to capitalize and turn this season completely around.
