Kyle Busch knows his weaknesses, has eyes set on regular season championship
After winning the second race of the season, Kyle Busch knew what the goal was – win the regular season championship. The NASCAR champion knows what it takes to get the job done. He’s been “studying” the points recently. With where he is right now, he knows that there is a path to claim the regular season title and the playoff bonus.
Kyle Busch is on a solid hot streak. He’s been rattling off top-10s and top-5s since his win at Gateway. Even when things get tough, he’s just been that consistent veteran in the field. The Richard Childress Racing driver looks to be in top form right now.
Ahead of the Crayon 301 at New Hampshire, Busch has an idea of what he needs to do in these last seven races.
“I think I was looking at it [regular season championship] about race two or three,’’ Busch said, laughing, via NASCAR. “I think you always kind of try to keep a pulse on it and just kind of see what’s going on. Seven weeks ago, we weren’t looking too good. But we’ve made some really good headway in the last seven weeks of being able to work our way back up the points standings and get ourselves closer to that front.
“I was doing a points study earlier this week. We’re 120 stage points less than William Byron. And if I had half of that I’d be leading the points by 20, you know what I mean. We have to be able to execute better in the stages to get stage points. That’s what it’s going to come down to. We know our weaknesses, just still trying to figure out how to improve that.’’

With how much success Kyle Busch has had this season, it’s hard to count him out.
Kyle Busch has job security, and that’s made a difference
The big difference between Kyle Busch last year and this year is job security. Now that he’s locked in with RCR for multiple years, has sponsorship, and wins, he feels confident. He knows his place in the No. 8 Chevy Camaro is safe for not just this season, but moving forward.
“Yeah I mean, I would say having job security is always a great thing, right?” Busch said, via Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports. “So anytime you’re not sure what’s going on, you’re always thinking about that as well as thinking about working on how to make yourself be better, and your car go faster, and everything like that. So, only having one of those things to think about or work on gives you double the amount of time to be able to focus on that. It’s nice to just um, be a little bit more chill, right?”
With that confidence and security behind him, Kyle Busch has raced to three wins this season. He has also performed well on a variety of tracks, showing he is still one of the best drivers in the Cup Series.
Rowdy will have a hard time in New Hampshire. He’s going to start from the rear and have to work his way up after making repairs. His car hit the wall during the final qualifying round and got banged up. With how many comebacks he has had from pit road penalties and more, don’t count Busch out.
