This weekend the father-son duo of Kyle and Brexton Busch are at the Tulsa Shootout racing on the dirt with the nation’s best. Yesterday, the NASCAR champion got into a wreck during his heat race in the Non-Winged Stock division.

However, that isn’t all of the news from the Busch family. The Tulsa Shootout has been a new thing in recent years for Rowdy and his son. With Brexton coming up in racing, his dad is trying to get him all of the experience possible.

With dirt racing, Kyle Busch hopes his son will learn car control, not unlike Christopher Bell and Kyle Larson. There is one thing that Brexton, AKA BRex, likely won’t race, at least as a kid – Midget cars.

Right now, he’s going through the Junior Sprints. Soon, he’ll go up to Micros. Those Midget cars are a no-go as far as Samantha Busch is concerned.

“Yeah, probably get to micros, maybe midgets,” Brexton said in an interview with FloRacing. “My mom doesn’t want me to get into midgets, though.”

When it was time for dad Kyle Busch to speak up, he echoed the sentiment. Mom does not want Brexton in those cars. But, Dad might let him.

“Exactly. Mom would not like the midget class. But we’ll give it a whirl one day, we’ll see how that goes,” Busch said. “See what we like doing throughout the micros.”

Brexton Busch is moving up the ranks quickly. It won’t be long before we see him wheeling a Late Model or even an ARCA car.

Kyle Busch wrecks, but has more racing to do

While Kyle Busch’s time in his Non-Winged Stock car is over this weekend, he has more to do. He will get into his Winged car and try to advance to a qualifier. For not being a dirt racer historically, Rowdy has done well in the last few years at this event.

This is more for Brexton though. It is a great time for the Busch family to do something fun in the offseason. However, Kyle sees his son as a future NASCAR star. Or maybe an open-wheel professional. At any rate, he expects Brexton to be a professional driver.

Events like the Tulsa Shootout, where there are hundreds of entries, will only make Brexton a better racer. It puts him in a position where he knows he likely won’t be the best driver in his division. That’s a good thing. I’m sure soon enough, BRex will be a name people look for on the entry lists.

Kyle Busch has more racing to do despite his wreck this weekend. Let’s hope he stays clean and gets some good laps in. The Daytona 500 is just 50 days away, folks!
