Kyle Busch reveals when he would consider retiring from NASCAR
Now two decades into his NASCAR Cup Series career, it now becomes a real question of just how long Kyle Busch will continue to race week in and week out.
Busch, 39, has accomplished nearly everything you can in the Cup Series and is a first ballot Hall of Famer but remains signed long-term with Richard Childress Racing. Appearing on “The Pat McAfee Show” Friday, Busch said the goal is to race another five or six years at about the time his son, Brexton, will be eligible to compete in NASCAR.
“I’ll go as long as the good Lord lets me,” Busch said. “I’ve got another five, six years in me at least. That’s about the time my boy will be old enough. He’ll get here. … He’ll be 16. He won’t be in the top series when he’s 16, he’ll be in the trucks.”
Brexton is currently following in his father’s footsteps, winning his share of dirt races. In February, Brexton signed a three-year sponsorship contract extension with Servpro Industries LLC. Busch shared photos of him and his son racing in Pennsylvania this week ahead of this Sunday’s Brickyard 400 at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway oval.
“Been a fun a few days racing alongside Brex in PA. Had solid speed, and seen a lot of #RowdyNation at the track!” Busch wrote. “Two more nites of dirt before Indy!”

Kyle Busch aiming for a half-decade longer career in NASCAR
The Xfinity and Truck Series allow drivers under 18 to compete, though only at short tracks and not full-time. So, while Busch and his son likely won’t overlap in the Cup Series, there’s a chance they could in one of NASCAR’s other series.
As for Busch’s career, the 2024 season has been his most challenging to date. He sits 102 points back of Ross Chastain for the 16th and final playoff spot and is riding a career-long 42-race winless streak. He’s posted five DNF’s in the last seven races, and his frustration is evident, specifically with the rest of the field.
“I don’t have faith in any of them,” Busch told McAfee. “… I mean, I’ve been wrecked five out of the last seven races by somebody, so I don’t have faith. Maybe I’m just slow and I’m in the way and they know I’m slow, so I’m an easy guy to pass, so they just wanna knock me out.”
