Kyle Busch still has eyes on Indy 500 start after two-seater ride with Tony Kanaan
Even though he wasn’t able to find an Indy 500 ride for 2024, Kyle Busch is still seeking his chance at the historic race. For the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, it is a race that he feels he needs to run before he hangs up his helmet and driving gloves.
The good news for Rowdy, he’s got friends in high places at IndyCar. Namely, Tony Kanaan. Kanaan took Kyle Busch for a ride around the Indy Road Course in a two-seater IndyCar vehicle. It wasn’t exactly the same as doing it himself, but Busch seemed to enjoy the ride-along.
The good news for Kanaan, he was driving around a seasoned veteran. Busch is no stranger to going fast and so the IndyCar legend was able to really gas it up and fly around the track.
Busch would rather drive the car himself, though.
“Yeah, I’ve kind of always said I’d love to give it a shot and have that opportunity to be able to get out there,” Busch said, via IndyCar. “Obviously, being able to just roll around here on the Indy road course is vastly different than the oval, but still to get my hands and feet and everything else behind the wheel and maybe go make some laps would certainly be neat.”
It remains to be seen if Kyle Busch can land a ride for the Indy 500. However, with his resume and record, it would be difficult to see him completely boxed out of the series for multiple years. Kyle Larson is set to make the Indy 500/Coca-Cola 600 double in 2024.
So, can Busch get a deal done?
Kyle Busch loves motorsports of all kinds
Just in case you were wanting to know, Kyle Busch lives and breathes motorsports. If he isn’t behind the wheel of a car himself, he’s likely watching a race on TV. While talking about the IndyCar and NASCAR crossover weekend, Busch was all for it.

If you can give fans a unique event, it is worth it. As a driver and a fan of the sport, Rowdy has a unique take on the whole thing.
“It’s really fun to just kind of have the two – garage area, paddock – being near each other and then the camaraderie between some of the INDYCAR drivers. I’m friends with a few other of those guys over there, Josef Newgarden, namely. But it’s been fun to just watch.
“I watch NHRA. I watch INDYCAR,” Busch said. He continued. “I watch off-road stuff when I can. Anything that’s on there. It’s really neat to just get with those guys. And running in SRX (Superstars Racing Experience) this year has really brought that on as well, too. I saw Josef at Motor Mile and then Tony was actually racing the races I was not racing, and vice versa. So, I haven’t seen him yet until today.”
Whether or not Kyle Busch gets an Indy 500 ride remains to be seen. However, it is clear that it is still on his mind.
