Kyle Busch wrecks early in Chicago, gets stuck underneath tire barrier
Kyle Busch is the first driver to get into some big trouble. He got his Chevy Camaro wedged into a tire barrier. During the Grant Park 220 on the NASCAR Chicago Street Course, Busch had to be towed out of the tire barrier. Madness on the streets of Chicago.
Rain and wet conditions are going to play a massive factor in this race. Even on the rain tires, Kyle Busch had no chance of saving his car from wrecking in Turn 6. The good news is the tire barriers are now filled with water, maybe it eased the impact a bit.
After the tow truck got him free, Busch was able to continue. His Chevy really didn’t take much damage here. Just a few laps in and we’re already seeing some wild action on the Chicago Street Race Course.
Rowdy was having a decent go of things early on. However, this incident will set him back pretty far. After hitting the barrier, Bushc was able to continue but had to go to the rear of the field. While they had wet weather tires, the rain was not his friend as he slid quickly into the tire barrier of Turn 6.
That section of Turns 4, 5, and 6 is tricky. We have seen drivers have issues with that throughout the weekend. However, drivers will need to stay in control if they want a shot at this race.

Kyle Busch not the only driver struggling
If it makes Kyle Busch feel any better, he isn’t the only driver that had issues. Even without contact from another car, Busch and his old teammate Denny Hamlin both found the tire barriers. Hamlin was the pole sitter. He didn’t really want to race in the rain and wet weather, opting to instead plead with NASCAR to postpone things until Monday.
Things didn’t go Hamlin’s way and during the second lap of the race he found the tire barrier on Turn 2. He dropped down to P12 from P2 and had to work his way through the field. Other drivers, including Noah Gragson, Erik Jones, and Brad Keselowski also found themselves in early trouble although no caution was thrown.
Tyler Reddick is the real story of this race as he has taken off and left the field behind. He will have to battle with his Toyota teammate in Christopher Bell if he wants to take the inaugural Chicago Street Race win in the Cup Series.
Kyle Busch has a long day ahead of him if he plans on salvaging any part of his race today. It’s not going to be an easy road back through the field.
