It’s looking more and more likely that Kyle Larson will attempt to run The Double once again in 2025 after Mother Nature thwarted his plans in 2024.

According to Jenna Fryer of the Associated Press, Larson told reporters at NASCAR Playoff Media Day that he would like to attempt to run the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 on the same day once again in 2025, and “talks are ongoing” regarding the possibility.

That’s certainly welcome news from Larson and his team, as his attempt brought in a ton of attention each time he climbed into the IndyCar world. While he certainly looked the part, rain in Indianapolis that followed him to Charlotte forced Larson to deal with a playoff-waiver controversy, as he was never able to climb into the car for the rain-shortened Coca-Cola 600.

While Larson was able to receive the waiver for the playoffs, missing the race in Charlotte actually ruined his chance at the regular season title in 2024, as Larson came up one point shy of Tyler Reddick’s total. Of course, simply running the Coca-Cola 600 would’ve given Larson the cushion he needed.

“I mean, it’s not just that one,” Larson told FOX’s Bob Pockrass following Darlington, asked if he regretted missing the race now that he knows the final tally. “I could’ve finished at Michigan, or finished at Iowa, or finished at Chicago, and not even had it been close today. So no, I don’t really look at Indy as being the reason why.

“That’s just part of my season. I wouldn’t give up running the Indy 500 for you know, five bonus points.”

Evidently, Larson is more focused on the races he had trouble with when he was actually driving the car, instead of one that he never got to get behind the wheel for. That’s understandable, but it won’t make it sting any less for the Hendrick Motorsports star.

At the least, running the Indianapolis 500 exposed Larson’s talent to a whole new world of motorsports, as he impressed during his time behind the wheel. Many even picked Larson to win the event back in May.

If Kyle Larson does in fact attempt The Double again in 2025, here’s to hoping he gets some better treatment from Mother Nature, as the No. 5 wheelman deserves it after the grief he was given for trying to pull the feat off this season.
