Ahead of the Richmond weekend, Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson texted about their incident on the track at Pocono. Hamlin expressed that he wanted to meet Larson in person to talk things out and make amends. However, Larson felt it was unnecessary. So, the two NASCAR drivers texted about it.

The two friends off the track didn’t talk in person. However, Kyle Larson confirmed that they texted one another about what went down. Hamlin tried to meet in person, but it wasn’t something Larson was interested in.

As they get ready to compete against one another again, it will be interesting how they interact off and on the track at Richmond.

“Yeah it was brief and fine,” Larson said, via Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports. “We just texted a little bit late last night. He wanted to meet up, I just didn’t really feel like there was a reason to meet up because we were just going to agree to disagree and probably get more frustrated with him – and I’m sure vice versa he’d be frustrated with me afterward. So, I just felt the brief texts we had were good and ultimately I think was probably the best.”

A week later and this is still the talk of the Cup Series. Everyone wants to know if there is going to be more fireworks between these two drivers. The Pocono incident will be talked about for a while to come. Every time fans see the 5 and 11 near one another for the rest of the season, it will put them on the edge of their seats.

Denny Hamlin doesn’t regret late move on Kyle Larson

While Hamlin seems to feel bad for his friend, he doesn’t exactly regret his decision. That win was meaningful not just for him, but for his team and manufacturer as well. When you have a chance to pick up records and make milestones, you have to take them.

The media asked if Hamlin would redo the Kyle Larson situation differently if he had a chance. With hindsight, the 50-time race winner couldn’t say he would.

“You know, again, so many different records that we could accomplish with that one win. With the track, with Toyota, with myself personally, it’s hard to say in that moment if I would do anything differently for sure. Certainly, I didn’t like the outcome for him. I wish that he could have finished second but it was just one of those things where we just flat-out ran out of room and I made a split-second decision to try to clear him instantly.”

The driver made a decision and that was the result. Whether Denny Hamlin and Kyle Larson get into another run-in remains to be seen. Hamlin qualified P3 while Larson will start P14 after a disappointing qualifying effort. Tyler Reddick starts on the pole for the Cook Out 400.
