Kyle Larson fuels speculation with cryptic comments on NASCAR playoff format

We are two months out from the Clash at Bowman Gray and Kyle Larson is making fans raise their eyebrows with recent comments today. Could the NASCAR Playoffs really be changing for 2025?
When Joey Logano won his third Cup Series championship this season, fans were not exactly happy. Logano is likely the most controversial champion in the Championship 4 era.
Speaking with Brad Gillie of RACER during a live stream for Race Industry Week, Kyle Larson talked about his 2024 season. Then he threw in a line about the playoffs that has us wondering what he knows that we don’t.
“It was a great year. Yeah, I was super, super happy with the performance of our race team all year long,” Larson told Gillie. “We had a ton of speed from race one to race 38, really. Yeah, I was happy. Obviously you want to make the final four and have a shot at the championship but at the same point, like, I also understand the format and know kind of how crazy it can be and all that. So, I don’t let finishing sixth in points take anything away from our season.
“I know we had, you know, one of the best if not the best season. We led the series in most every category. So, really proud of the team and their hard work. Yeah, and I think we left some out on the table, too. I’m excited about next year and hopefully, we can continue to evolve and get stronger as a team and yeah. Win some more races, lead more laps, and who knows? Who knows what the new format will be? So, maybe it will benefit us somehow.”
Will NASCAR make a tweak to the playoffs this season? Kyle Larson won the most races, six, and did not make the Championship 4 finale. So, what changes could be coming?

Kyle Larson hints at NASCAR Playoffs change, what is it?
This season there were a few complaints about the NASCAR Playoffs. Even before Joey Logano went on to win three of the final ten races of the season, fans were up in arms about the postseason.
Namely, the fact that Harrison Burton won his way into the playoffs despite being almost dead last in regular season points. I believe NASCAR could put a points cap back on the playoffs like they had in the past. It used to be top-30 in points. Perhaps it needs to be top-25 or even top-20 in points to get a “win and you’re in” ticket.
Besides that, maybe increase the points for wins and stage wins? Larson dominated stages this season and should have maybe been rewarded for that more than he was.
Kyle Larson is looking forward to 2025. If NASCAR does tweak the playoffs to benefit the high performers in the series, then it could help Larson as he tries to become a two-time champion.
