Kyle Larson growing concerned about weather ruining Indy 500 chances
As Memorial Day Weekend gets closer, the weather in Indianapolis does not look promising. Kyle Larson is a little worried about it. The worry is growing for the NASCAR driver as he looks to attempt The Double.
1100 miles of racing, two different series, one day. It’s a feat that only four other drivers have ever attempted. Only Tony Stewart has finished on the lead lap of both races in the same attempt.
Kyle Larson is hoping to become the fifth driver to complete The Double and second to finish on the lead lap for both races. The only thing standing in his way at the moment is the terrible forecast that calls for storms all day Sunday in Indy.
Speaking with the media, Larson revealed that he is growing concerned with the prospect of having to pick one race over the other.
“It just has to come down to game-time decisions…hopefully the weather gods work out for us and we can get both races in,” Larson said via Nick Carboni of WCNC.
Kyle Larson was the top performing rookie in the Indy 500 qualifying session last week. He managed to get himself up to P5 for the Greatest Spectacle in Racing. A great starting spot for a rookie, even if he is a NASCAR champion.
While he has 500 miles to race to prove it, Larson looks to be a top-5 driver in the race. Then there is the Coca-Cola 600 and the grueling race it is. A true test of strength and endurance, physically and mentally, Larson will be pushed to his limits.

Contingency plans for Kyle Larson
This will be the ultimate test for Kyle Larson. That is, unless one of the races is delayed or postponed. Ideally, Larson will race two times on Sunday before the night is over. 1100 miles total. However, there is a chance that doesn’t happen. At that point, you hope Indy gets pushed to Monday at worst.
Because the nightmare situation is that the Indy 500 gets delayed and then he doesn’t get to race in it at all. The Double HAS to be done on the same day. But seeing a Sunday NASCAR performance and then a Monday IndyCar performance would still be impressive.
I believe that Larson will try to attempt more than just one Indy 500. There is just something about him that drives him to race anything if the logistics are possible. If for some reason he can’t race the Indy 500 this year, he will for sure be back.
Kyle Larson has a huge task ahead of him, Hopefully, he gets to attempt The Double on Sunday at the very least. Let all of that rain and the storms come on Monday. So, Sunday needs to happen for the good of all motorsports.
