Among the field of sprint car drivers competing for one million dollars at Eldora Speedway was NASCAR champion Kyle Larson. Known for his dirt racing prowess, Larson was among the field of favorites heading into the main event at the end of the night.

The fans turned out for the biggest dirt race ever! The Eldora Million is the first race to offer up such a large prize for the overall winner. Eldora Speedway has been home to some of the most amazing races and finishes in sprint car history.

While running P6 after the short break that took place after the first 20 of 50 laps, Kyle Larson found himself in a tough spot. The No. 8 came up the track on the restart in Turn 2 and Larson had nowhere to go. This wreck took out five vehicles in the process.

Everyone was okay after the wreck and were able to exit their vehicles.

While Kyle Larson lost his chance at one million dollars, the race went on. Hanover, PA native Logan Schuchart and his Shark Racing team were excellent. After a long day of racing to get to the main event and earn pole position, Shuchart kept it up throughout the race.

Despite nonsense in the back of the field, Schuchart was perfect. He led every lap and went on to earn himself the largest payday in sprint car history! That money can do a lot of good in the sprint car world, especially for Shark Racing.

Kyle Larson wreck reminder of dangers of racing

Of course, everyone was fine after the fact. However, given the injuries that NASCAR has seen, specifically Hendrick Motorsports, this wreck was scary. Watching it live, the first thing that came through my mind was wondering “What if Kyle Larson is hurt like Alex Bowman?” It was a minute or two of concern.

Things like this happen in racing every week. Sprint cars are tricky and they can flip and bob around unlike stock cars in many ways. If Larson had suffered any kind of injury in that wreck, it would have been another strike against extracurricular activities away from NASCAR.

Thankfully, Kyle Larson and the other drivers were fine. The Eldora Million was an amazing event and one of the coolest things you will see on a dirt track. Watching these drivers give their all for a life-changing payday was truly amazing.

There is no guarantee that the Eldora Million is going to return. It happened once now, can it happen again? If it does, you can bet Kyle Larson will be lining up for the event.
