Kyle Larson paces Cup Series drivers in practice at Turkey Night Grand Prix
In a trio of NASCAR Cup Series drivers, Kyle Larson was expectedly the best. He finished up P9 in Friday’s practice session. The USAC Midget National Championship race is going to be highly competitive later tonight.
There are more than 50 entries. Kyle Larson is joined by Kyle Busch and Ty Gibbs in terms of Cup Series talent. Corey Day, who got his first NASCAR start in the Truck Series this year, is also in the field.
Drivers will battle through qualifying, last-chance qualifiers, and the semis to make the big 98-lap show tonight. $15,000 to win this race is enough to make drivers leave it all out on the track.
Jacob Denney was the quickest in practice on the 1/5-mile dirt track at Ventura Raceway. Corey Day was P2. Further back in P9 was Kyle Larson. Then you have to go way back to P31 and P32 to find Kyle Busch and Ty Gibbs.
This is the Midget debut for Gibbs. Busch just recently hopped into one of these machines this month. So, they are both rookies in a sense, although Busch has been racing sprint cars for the last few years.

Kyle Larson searching for another win in 2024
This year, Kyle Larson has 19 total wins across all his disciplines. He has nine victories in the 410 sprint car and six in the Cup Series. He also picked up wins in the Xfinity Series, 360 sprint car, Dirt Late Model, and Midget car.
At Bakersfield earlier in the week, both Larson and Busch had issues. Busch suffered a mechanical issue that kept him out of the feature race. Larson had a mechanical issue that relegated him to a DNF in the feature.
This time around, both drivers are hoping to improve. Busch is likely just wanting to make the finale and then see what happens. For Larson, it is all about winning, which would be his 20th of the year.
As for Gibbs, well, he is out there getting his first laps in this Midget car. He could surprise people. Even though he is Joe Gibbs’ grandson, he is a very talented driver. Don’t be shocked to see him do well today.
