Sunday was less than ideal for Kyle Larson as he attempted the famous Double. His Indy 500 and Coca-Cola 600 were both impacted by weather. The NASCAR star was dejected after the race in Charlotte was called off.

Justin Allgaier drove the HendrickCars.com No. 5 to P13 from the back of the field. Kyle Larson never turned a lap in the car. That is where it sat when NASCAR called the race just before midnight.

The Indy 500 was delayed four hours. Then Larson sped on pit road to go from a solid top-10 drive to P18 finish. Nothing went the way it was supposed to for him.

“I don’t know. I’m very very thankful for the experience, obviously,” Larson said to Bob Pockrass of FOX Sports after leaving the race track. “Everything about the two weeks and all that was great until today, so just uh, sad. … Yeah it’s just sad. Everything that could have went wrong today, went wrong. So, hopefully, hopefully get to do it again in the future and hopefully weather is better next time.”

Kyle Larson was landing at Charlotte Motor Speedway when the yellow flag came out for rain. Soon, the red flag was out for thunderstorms in the area. It all looked like it would be just fine until the torrential rains came pouring down.

Those rains combined with the high humidity in Charlotte meant NASCAR couldn’t dry the track in a reasonable time. So, they called the race. Christopher Bell was named the winner. He had a strong showing all night through more than half of the race that was run.

Kyle Larson doesn’t get to race Coke 600

A deflating end to the day. This was supposed to be a historic moment, a time for Kyle Larson to be in the spotlight and it was anything but that. Larson signed a two-year deal but the details of the second year are unknown.

The fact that Larson didn’t even get to compete in the NASCAR race is just tough. With how well Allgaier performed, it was clear that Hendrick Motorsports had brought a hotrod to compete with. Larson missed out on that.

There was so much hype and fun and excitement that went into this weekend. Mother Nature came through and reminded us how much she hates motorsports. She can’t stand them, apparently. We all lost out because of it.

Kyle Larson will be fine. If he wants to do the Double again, he can do the Double again I’m sure. This was a deflating day, though. With so much expectation, it fell flat on its face.
