Kyle Larson sends heartfelt message to all involved in his Indy 500, Coca-Cola 600 double attempt
Kyle Larson’s attempt at the double on Sunday was thwarted by Mother Nature and a speeding-penalty, and it’s evident the Hendrick Motorsports wheelman was disappointed by the result.
All the hype was behind Larson during the Indianapolis 500, and he looked fast, but a speeding-penalty ended up ruining his chance at winning the race, and he ended up finishing in the middle of the pack. Due to a weather delay that forced the race to start late, Larson also missed that evening’s Coca-Cola 600 in Charlotte.
It ended up going from a dream day to one where Larson is now filled with dismay, and the wheelman took to social media to share his thoughts on the matter, being candid with his words.
“What I thought could be one of the best days of my life quickly turned into one of the most disappointing ones I’ve ever experienced. I hate it for Rick Hendrick, Jeff Gordon, HAG, Hendrick Motorsports, everyone a part of the 5 team, everyone on the 17 IndyCar for speeding, my family, my friends, my fans, and the documentary crew that has followed along the journey the past 8 months. So much time, money, and effort went into this experience and it just kills me to have it all end the way it did. I feel like I let so many people down. We knew all along weather could throw a wrench into things but seeing it come to reality is a horrible feeling,” Larson wrote. “Up until Sunday it was truly one of the greatest experiences of my life. I can’t describe how appreciative I am of everyone’s support of me to live out a dream. I hope it’s not the last opportunity I have to try the Double but if it is I guess it was memorable.

“Thank you to everyone at Arrow McLaren, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, and all the competitors there for making me feel welcomed. Ready to get back on track now and get refocused on winning a 2nd championship for our team.”
Regardless of the result, Larson impressed many in the motorsports world with his performance, and will likely be welcomed back to Indianapolis in 2025 if he chooses to try to pull the double once again. However, it remains to be seen if the Hendrick wheelman wants to go through all of that another time.
In the end, Kyle Larson’s attempt at the double finished in disappointment, but it certainly was memorable, and he’s shown he’s capable of pulling it off. NASCAR and motorsports fans as a whole are hoping he tries it again next season.
