Kyle Larson is bringing back the Coca-Cola 600 paint scheme for the Brickyard 400 on Sunday. Hendrick Motorsports made the announcement on Wednesday, and the paint scheme will be featured in the first Brickyard 400 since the Independence Day weekend race in 2020.
“Fans were really excited for this design to run back in May, and I was too,” Larson said in a news release. “Justin (Allgaier) did a great job driving the car, but with all the build-up and merch and everything around it, I asked HendrickCars.com if we could run it this weekend at Indianapolis and give the fans a chance to see me drive it. I’m grateful they agreed. Excited to get to run the scheme to say thanks to the fans for all the support.”
It’s fitting for Larson to sport the paint scheme for the No. 5 Chevrolet since he didn’t get to drive it at the Coca-Cola 600 in May. Before the race, Larson was in Indianapolis competing in the Indy 500. Rain delayed that race, leading Larson to miss half of the Coca-Cola 600. Larson attempted to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series race, but due to weather in the area, the Coca-Cola 600 ended early.

“What I thought could be one of the best days of my life quickly turned into one of the most disappointing ones I’ve ever experienced. I hate it for Rick Hendrick, Jeff Gordon, HAG, Hendrick Motorsports, everyone a part of the 5 team, everyone on the 17 IndyCar for speeding, my family, my friends, my fans, and the documentary crew that has followed along the journey the past 8 months. So much time, money, and effort went into this experience and it just kills me to have it all end the way it did. I feel like I let so many people down. We knew all along weather could throw a wrench into things but seeing it come to reality is a horrible feeling,” Larson wrote on social media at the time.

“Up until Sunday it was truly one of the greatest experiences of my life. I can’t describe how appreciative I am of everyone’s support of me to live out a dream. I hope it’s not the last opportunity I have to try the Double but if it is I guess it was memorable.”
Larson has put together a strong season as he’s won three races and holds the second-place spot in the playoff standings and the driver standings. The 31-year-old has won 26 races and earned 174 top-10 finishes in 351 Cup Series races.
