On the final restart of Stage 2, Kyle Larson lost control of his No. 5 Chevrolet, and collected a number of cars in a wreck at Michigan International Speedway.

After being released from the infield care center, Larson spoke to the NBC Sports crew, explaining his view on how the accident got started.

“Restarts are difficult here, you know, with the side-draft and all that,” Larson stated. “I was just trying to, you know, get all I could, and yeah, just try to, like, funnel to the top. I just moved up, got too close to whoever was outside of me, and sucked myself around. Yeah, just a bummer. We had an extremely fast car.

“So, hate that I screwed that up for our team, and as well as the others out there that got collected in it. So yeah, just trying to get what I could, get some stage points, and just lost it.”

It’s not the first time we’ve seen a driver lose control of their car at Michigan. Larson tried to elaborate on what exactly happens when we see that, trying to make sense of the situation.

“Yeah, I don’t know. I think just a hard tire and you know, that surface,” Larson added. “You have a lot of grip, until you don’t. So, yeah, just screwed that up.”

Kyle Larson’s afternoon is over on Monday, as he’ll be hoping to hold onto the points lead from his trailer, instead of fighting it out on the track.
