With his win at Las Vegas, Kyle Larson locked himself into the Phoenix championship race. That doesn’t mean he’s letting up the next two weeks. Larson and the NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs head to Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend for the 4EVER 400.

This is a track that Kyle Larson has fallen in love with over the years. His dirt racing background and ability to run high on the wall have made him a perennial favorite at the track. There are really just a couple of other drivers that can race this track in the way that he does every year.

Larson spoke with Bob Pockrass of Fox Sports about the upcoming Round of 8 races. Larson isn’t overlooking anything, despite having extra time to focus on Phoenix.

“I don’t want to get too far ahead of ourselves,” Larson said. “I really want to go have a good run these next two races. But it’s nice to get to go there and race with just winning on your mind and not points racing on your mind. We’ll go to Homestead and try to do what we did [at Vegas] and go to Martinsville and do the same thing, and then hopefully have a lot of momentum going into Phoenix.”

Everyone is focused on Miami for Larson, but he won at Martinsville this year for the first time, too.

Kyle Larson is one of the most talented drivers in the Cup Series. Even beyond the Cup Series. When he goes to tracks like Homestead, it shows. Not only that, but let’s not forget the absolute beating he put on the Cup Series during that 2021 run.

In the final stretch of that 2021 NASCAR Playoffs run, Larson won four out of the last five races.

Kyle Larson isn’t sure why he does so well at Homestead

While talking to Pockrass, Kyle Larson talked about his previous success at Homestead-Miami. Running up against the wall, you run into trouble if you hit the wall. Then again, Larson showed last week you can tap the wall and keep on moving. He got a break with that timely caution, but still. The car took the hit and kept moving.

That’s not always been the case in NASCAR. Thanks, Next Gen car.

I’m not sure,” Larson said about his success in Miami. “I think just being able to be comfortable running next to the wall, but lots of people run by the wall. And I don’t know what makes me go faster up there than some others. It just suits me, and I think the Next Gen car helps me a lot because you can make mistakes and get into the wall a little bit where the old car, you couldn’t really make mistakes and hit the wall because you ended up getting a flat tire or you’d mess up your aerodynamics pretty badly. Now the bodies are so tough that you can kind of drag along it a few times and be OK.”

While Kyle Larson is locked into the Championship 4 once again, he’s looking for more. This is a guy who will race at a random track in Missouri on a Tuesday night, after all. Racing, winning, it’s in his heart and I would not expect him to sit back for two more weeks leading up to Phoenix.
