Earlier today during a media availability, Christopher Bell made a mistake. Now, Kyle Larson is making jokes about Chase Elliott. Only NASCAR Silly Season could make this happen, to be honest.

With the retirement of Martin Truex Jr. confirmed for the end of this season, talk about his replacement has been all anyone wants to discuss. It has become clear that Chase Briscoe is the most likely driver to take over the 19 car.

Well, Bell spilled the beans during his New Hampshire media appearance. He dropped “Chase” during an answer on leadership. He didn’t say “Briscoe” though. Which means Kyle Larson can make this joke about Chase Elliott:

“Man totally blind sided by this news! Wishing Chase Elliott the best on his new adventure at Joe Gibbs Racing,” Larson joked on X.com, formerly known as Twitter. “Have enjoyed you as a teammate! Good luck.”

While Bell was embarrassed at the moment, it was great. Everyone knows that Chase Briscoe is headed to JGR at this point and Bell confirming that a few days before an official announcement is made is no big deal.

Could you imagine the headlines and the mayhem that would happen if Chase Elliott joined JGR? Hell would freeze over in the same day.

Kyle Larson was clearly pleased with his joke. It was pretty funny and a good way to pick fun at Bell’s mistake while also poking fun at Elliott. When the official announcement is made no one will care about Bell slipping up. It will be all eyes on 2025 at that point.

Chase Elliott has been quietly great this season

When Matt Kenseth won the 2003 NASCAR Cup Series championship, he only had one win on the season. But he was able to finish in the top-10, top-15 almost every single week. That season, Kenseth had four finishes outside of the top-20, and two of those were DNFs late in the year.

This season for Chase Elliott has been very similar. Elliott won at Texas early in the year. His worst finish was P19 at Phoenix. Six top-5s on the year, and right now, Elliott is the regular season points leader in the Cup Series.

Remaining consistent is the key to motorsports. You can’t let the lows get too low. When you have a bad race, that can’t continue into the next week, let alone two, three weeks after. Elliott does that better than most, shrugs off bad performances and keeps plugging along.

Don’t worry, folks. Chase Elliott isn’t going anywhere. He will be in the No. 9 car for Hendrick Motorsports as long as he wants to be. Chase Briscoe is for sure going to Joe Gibbs Racing, though.
