Kyle Larson wrecks Ross Chastain during wild Nashville overtime restart

Ross Chastain got wrecked by Kyle Larson during the overtime restart of the Nashville Cup Series race on Sunday. The two were battling for a potential victory when the incident happened.

It was a tough break for Chastain since he has yet to win a race this year. His best finish for the season came earlier this month when he earned a P5 finish at Sonoma. So far this year, Chastain has earned seven top-10 finishes and two top-five finishes.

In May, Chastain made his 200th Cup Series start. “I told the group that was putting together my first Cup start for Dover in 2017, I told them ‘No, I didn’t want to do it. I didn’t think I was ready,’” Chastain told NASCAR.com. “And then I went home and slept on it, woke up and drove back down and thought I probably should reconsider this and take this opportunity. I don’t know if it’ll ever happen again. So, it’s kind of like that first Truck start. I just wanted to, at that point, do a Cup race one time to say I did it and now we’re at 200. It’s incredible.”

Chastain also said: “My career in NASCAR started as one Truck race at IRP in Indianapolis, and it was a bucket list thing that my family and I, we had won a lot of late model races, really about all we could down in South Florida. “We wanted to keep doing it, but we felt like that if we could do one thing, it would be to make it to NASCAR in the trucks and just do it one time. We did that in 2011 and somehow that one race turned into four more, turned into a full season and I just haven’t stopped. I’ve just tried to keep it moving.”

Larson is having a strong 2024 season as he has won three races this year. He’s looking to win his second Cup Series title after winning it all in 2021.

In May, Larson competed in the Indy 500 and earned a P18 finish. “I felt like I was in a decent mindset before the race and felt like I knew what to expect from the race,” Larson said. “Probably have the most oval experience out of anybody in the field, which is crazy. I made the mistakes on the restarts and then at the end with the speeding penalty. “I would be much more cautious and less aggressive next time.”
