Kyle Petty: Austin Dillon got outdrove on the restart by Joey Logano

We all know how the finish went down between Austin Dillon, Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin at Richmond by now, but Kyle Petty chose to focus in on the final restart when examining the chaos.
Before Dillon spun Logano and hooked Hamlin for the win, the No. 3 wheelman had a chance to solidify his lead on the restart, but he was out-driven by the No. 22, as Petty explained during his recap of Sunday’s action.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Richmond. Not really a lot to talk about, not. Quite an incredible race. I thought Austin Dillon drove one of the best races that I have ever seen him drive, until those last few laps. That’s a totally different story, and a totally different race, but he had a great car. But let’s go to the restart,” Petty stated. “We go to the restart, and we’ve got the No. 3 car of Austin Dillon on the inside, and oh, the No. 22 car of Joey Logano on the outside. Austin Dillon gets out-drove. He doesn’t get out-run, he gets out-drove on the restart.
“The great race that he had driven up to that point, throw it out the window, because now you beat Austin Dillon. You’ve got to do something drastic, and we saw him do something drastic. He comes from four or five car lengths back, going into Turn 3, on the final lap, he gets into Joey Logano and spins him.”
Even though Petty was candid in his statement, believing Dillon wrecked Logano and Hamlin without much remorse, he doesn’t want to hear either veteran whine, believing it’s crocodile tears, considering their reputations.

“Don’t whine Joey Logano, we’ve seen you do it before. Denny Hamlin, he can’t say much either. They’ve done the same thing,” Petty added. “The thing that bothered me was the coming off the corner and turning the No. 11 into the outside wall, Denny Hamlin.
“But, as I looked at it and went back and replayed it, I think it’s two guys fighting for the same position, two different angles. We know from geometry, when two lines intersect, we’re gonna have chaos, and that’s what happened.”
Alas, Joey Logano and Denny Hamlin may not exactly agree with Kyle Petty, but Austin Dillon’s win still remains as sweet. He brought the No. 3 back to Victory Lane at Richmond in grand fashion, and the crowd was certainly on his side when the dust settled.
