Kyle Petty’s early season hot take on Ryan Blaney goes viral after NASCAR championship
Not everything you say can be right. Kyle Petty is getting some backlash over early-season comments about Ryan Blaney. To be fair, looking back on them now after this NASCAR Playoffs run, he might deserve a little jeering for what he said.
In the world of hot takes and being the first one with an opinion, things can get messy. People say things that either can’t be proven or just completely fall apart after a short amount of time.
All the way back in March, Kyle Petty had words about Ryan Blaney and his potential.
“Ryan Blaney is the new Kasey Kahn. Potential unfulfilled. Everybody wants to talk about what he can do, but he never does anything,” Petty said on March 6 of this year.
The quote is now going viral online. Daniel McFadin with the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette has a tweet receiving dozens of quote tweets cracking jokes at Petty’s take.
Well, what about winning the Coca-Cola 600, Talladega in the playoffs, and then Martinsville? And he capped it off with a P2 finish at Phoenix and the NASCAR Cup Series championship.
Hey, to be fair to Petty, he started this season with more career Cup Series wins than Ryan Blaney. Now, Blaney has surpassed that 8-win total and has 10 career Cup victories. They’ve both got a Coca-Cola 600 win now… but only YRB has a NASCAR championship.

Ryan Blaney fans defend their new champion
Now, in case you didn’t know, Ryan Blaney has lots of fans. And it isn’t just #MomsForRyanBlaney, either. (If you know, you know). There were defenders of YRB all over Twitter/X today and last night.
Even Team Penske IndyCar driver Scott McLaughlin got in on the jokes.
Sometimes, there’s nothing you can say in a moment like this. Besides, photos do a much better job of explaining things. This fan had the right idea.
Ryan Blaney is a NASCAR Cup Series champion. That will never be taken away from him. He also did it in a championship that represented so much for the sport.
Kevin Harvick’s last race. The second year of the Next Gen car. Not to mention the 75th year of NASCAR itself – the Diamond Anniversary. Blaney was part of and came out on top of the youngest Championship 4 in history.
