Kyle Larson secured his first Brickyard 400 victory at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Sunday, and in Kyle Petty’s mind, is now the driver to pay most attention to for the season finale at Phoenix.

“The 5 car in Kyle Larson continues to impress, continues to dominate in a way that we’ve never seen before and continues to hang onto that ring and have that luck week in and week out,” Petty said in a NASCAR.com video. “Look for him at Phoenix.”

Larson is indeed the top dog in the NASCAR Cup Series through 22 races this season. In addition to being the only four-time winner, Larson now sits atop the regular season points standings, passing Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott after his win at IMS.

Larson, the 2021 Cup Series champion, has been at least in the mix to win nearly every week this season. And after his Brickyard 400 triumph, Larson is now just a Daytona 500 victory away from conquering each of NASCAR’s Crown Jewel races.

Kyle Larson teases Indy 500 appearance in 2025

Oh, and there’s also that event called the Indy 500, you may have heard of it. Larson finished P18 in his Indy 500 debut in May and made it clear Sunday that he wants to run it back in 2025.

“It’s for sure up there,” Larson told NBC Sports after the race. “Like you mentioned, this is just such a prestigious place… such hallowed ground. Pretty neat to get an opportunity to race here on the oval again. What a job by our team. I mean, never gave up at all. We had the pit stop issue there early on. Just fought, dug and had things work out. Just can’t thank them enough. Hendrickcars.com, Valvoline, Chevrolet, JINYA Ramen Bar, Prime; all the fans, too. I love you, Indiana fans. I know you guys love me, too. How about we come back next May and try to kiss these bricks in an IndyCar?”

Larson would love to kiss the bricks in an IndyCar, but for now, he’ll enjoy the memories he made Sunday inside a Cup Series car. And who knows, perhaps a second championship will follow by the time we leave Phoenix in November.
