LA Chargers add Shaquille Quarterman following release from Philadelphia Eagles
NFL linebacker Shaquille Quarterman‘s stint with the Philadelphia Eagles last week was short-lived, but now he has a new home with the LA Chargers. The team signed him on Monday morning, following his release on Sunday after the Eagles’ first preseason game against the Ravens, according to Adam Schefter.
Quarterman’s rookie contract with the Jaguars expired in March after four seasons with the team, leaving him free to sign a new deal in free agency.
He completed a workout with the Chicago Bears last month before training camp, however, he didn’t sign a new deal until the Eagles signed him last week. He’ll now join the Chargers in training camp as they work toward their second preseason game. The Chargers lost their first preseason game against the Seahawks, 16-3, and now, they’ll host the Rams on Saturday night.
The Jaguars drafted Quarterman out of Miami with the No. 140 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He contributed as a rookie, playing in 12 games and tallying six tackles. His second season was his most productive, however, as he played in 17 games and racked up 30 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for loss.
In his third season with Jacksonville, Quarterman had 16 tackles in 17 games played. He also notched his first career forced fumble. Though he wasn’t a starter for the Jaguars, he made plenty of contributions on special teams. Last season, he had two tackles in 17 games played before the team opted not to extend his contract into 2024.
