LA Rams expected to hire former Nebraska head coach Scott Frost as senior analyst
The Los Angeles Rams are expected to hire former Nebraska head coach Scott Frost as a senior football analyst, On3’s Pete Nakos has confirmed.
Frost was the head coach at Nebraska from 2018 through 2022. Before that, he held the same position at UCF where he helped the Knights finish 13-0 in 2017.
Earlier this year, Frost spoke with CBS to discuss his future where he said he was “dying” to get back into the coaching industry. He didn’t want to join broadcasting like many of his peers after their retirement or in between coaching gigs and become a talking figure or a “critic from the sidelines,” as he put it. That’s seemed to be true since he got into coaching.
Once he was let go by Nebraska, it had been the first time Frost wasn’t in the coaching industry since 2006 when he was brought on by Kansas State as a graduate assistant. From there, he had stops at Northern Iowa and Oregon before getting his first head coaching job with UCF in 2016. He was there for two seasons — the second of which saw him lead them to an undefeated season.

He was hired at Nebraska, his alma mater which he won two national championships with during his playing days, in 2018 but failed to meet expectations. During his tenure, he compiled a 16-31 record including a 10-26 record against Big Ten opponents and was 0-14 against ranked opposition while coaching the Cornhuskers.

Frost’s future came into question over the offseason following a 3-9 2021 season. He signed a restructured contract, which resulted in a reduced buyout and a pay cut. He also revamped the coaching staff, but Nebraksa ultimately did not keep him around and appointed Mickey Joseph as interim head coach before they hired Matt Rhule before the 2023 season.
As for his new position in Los Angeles, it’s unclear as of this report what Frost’s role with the Rams organization will be specifically. Regardless, Frost is now back in the coaching industry and for the first time in the NFL.
The Rams will kick off its 2024-25 regular season during the first Sunday Night Football game of the season against the Detroit Lions. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 p.m. ET live on NBC.
