Landon Dickerson reveals embarrassing moment from NFL debut

Philadelphia Eagles guard Landon Dickerson revealed his welcome to the NFL moment, and it happened on his very first snap.

The former Alabama offensive lineman joined teammate Jason Kelce, along with Travis, on the New Heights podcast. Dickerson was not shy about describing his rookie moment where he was planted on his backside during a huge play from Jalen Hurts in the passing game.

The story in its entirety is quite entertaining.

“It was the very first play, very first play and the only bad part was it gets replayed in our facility,” Dickerson said. “We throw a ball to Quez Watkins and when like, 80 something yards, our longest throw and receive without a touchdown, I think all year. We were backed up, I think on the one yard line, first play it was after Brandon (Brooks) got hurt. I came in, I was like, I don’t really know what the (expletive) I’m doing because I just went back there, I tried to do what I thought was right. 

“I ended up getting just pressed and thrown into the ground. My (expletive) cheeks are probably imprinted in the endzone still. Jalen Hurts just throws a bomb to Quez, runs it like 85 yards … and I’m like (expletive), and then I come back the next Monday and all I see is a highlight reel. Luckily it cuts off right before I get put on my (expletive). But that was definitely welcome to the NFL.”

Dickerson was the No. 37 overall pick (second round) in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Alabama. He won the Rimington Trophy in 2020 with the Crimson Tide, the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, was a Unanimous All-American and First-Team All-SEC during his final year.

He also helped Alabama win the College Football Playoff national championship.

Dickerson didn’t let his welcome to the NFL moment hurt him. In 2022, Dickerson was a Pro Bowler and helped the Eagles get to Super Bowl LVII.

Moving forward, maybe Dickerson will give some other rookie defender their welcome to the NFL moment.As a member of the Class of 2016, Dickerson was a five-star recruit out of Hudson (N.C.) South Caldwell, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He was the No. 2 overall prospect in the state, the No. 1 interior offensive lineman in the class and the No. 27 overall prospect in the class.
