The Philadelphia Eagles announced they have agreed to terms with offensive lineman Lane Johnson on a one-year contract extension through 2027. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Johnson reworked his contract to add $8 million over the next two years and an additional $30 million in guarantees.

“The soon-to-be 35-year-old Johnson now will earn $48 million over the next two years, including $40 million guaranteed,” Schefter wrote on X/Twitter. The contract extension comes after Johnson helped the Eagles win the Super Bowl in February.

Lane Johnson, who plays right tackle, has been with the Eagles since the team selected him in the first round (No. 4 overall) in the 2013 NFL Draft. In his 12 seasons in Philadelphia, the former Oklahoma Sooners offensive lineman has been named to the Pro Bowl six times, selected to the All-Pro Team five times and helped the Eagles win two Super Bowls.

“On top of the fact that he’s so talented and so quick, he uses the technique that he’s been taught, and it’s all over the film,” Run Game Coordinator/Offensive Line Coach Jeff Stoutland said about Johnson in November, per Dave Sparado of the Eagles’ official website. “Not only is he physically freakish, he’s technically sound. Together with those two things, I don’t know who’s better.”

Lane Johnson talks about his ‘routine’ for each season

“Consistency is key. Consistency is everything to be great at this position,” Eagles left tackle Jordan Mailata said. “Lane embodies that with his playing style, with his determination, his work ethic. You see it every day. Consistency. That’s why he’s one of the greats. And it’s hard. When you’re chasing greatness, consistency is your biggest foe. Because that’s what it means to be great. Are you showing up time and time again, playing at the same standard, and I think Lane embodies that.”

Johnson has a lot of qualities that make him an elite offensive lineman. But what is the biggest thing he does to keep himself among the best in the NFL?

“I’ve got a routine,” Johnson said. “I stick to it. Every year I try to evaluate how the season goes and stuff I need to work on and attack my weaknesses. That’s really it. I stay consistent with my routine and I think over time in the second half of my career I’m a lot stronger player than I was earlier in my career. Physically stronger. It has made a world of difference.”
