Las Vegas Raiders fire head coach Antonio Pierce
The Las Vegas Raiders have fired head coach Antonio Pierce after a rough 2024 season, the team announced. He leaves the team after being hired as the full-time head coach following the 2023 season.
Pierce joined the Raiders in 2022 to be the linebackers coach. When the team fired head coach Josh McDaniels halfway through the 2023 season, Pierce was named interim head coach and led the Raiders to a 5-4 record in nine games. In January, the Raiders officially named Pierce the 23rd head coach in franchise history.
The 2024 season was a struggle for Pierce and the Raiders. After starting 2-2, Las Vegas lost the next 10 games before getting wins against the Jacksonville Jaguars and New Orleans Saints.
Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated recently said that it was likely that Pierce would be fired despite the team playing well at the end of the year. “Las Vegas Raiders coach Antonio Pierce’s status has been up in the air for over a month,” Breer wrote.

“The team has continued to play hard for him, the roster’s gotten younger, the young guys have developed and going to Scott Turner as OC has mostly worked. They won on Sunday. That said, with the expectation that the football people will be under a mandate to find a long-term quarterback this offseason, change is absolutely in play, if not likely.”
Raiders offensive lineman Kolton Miller recently shared his thoughts about Pierce on Sports Illustrated. “I think he has really been the glue to hold us together, to not lay down. We come out every week and [try to win], Miller said. “It is a testament to him and to the team that the attitude we bring each week is, we are trying to win.”
“We’re clawing, we’re scraping. We are doing everything we can, even with the bodies down and guys stepping up. The mindset, the approach each week–it would be easy if we laid down and said ‘Oh, yeah. It is what it is. We have these guys out.’ No, we fight each week, and the buy-in is there every week. Trying to get better, trying to get a win.”
