Las Vegas Raiders hire Norv Turner as offensive assistant
The Las Vegas Raiders are hiring Norv Turner to be an assistant to help with the offense, according to multiple reports from the NFL Network. This comes after the Raiders fired offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, quarterbacks coach Rich Scangarello and offensive line coach James Cregg.
Turner, 72, is considered to be one the of best offensive minds in NFL history. He was the Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator when the team won Super Bowl XXVII and Super Bowl XVIII. Along with being a successful offensive coordinator, Turner was the head coach for Washington, the San Diego Chargers and the Raiders. As a head coach, Tuner posted a 56-40 record and won four division titles. Turner will join his son, Scott Turner who is currently the Raiders’ passing game coordinator.
The last time Norv Turner was part of an NFL coaching staff was in 2019 when he was the team’s offensive coordinator. When then-head coach Ron Rivera was fired toward the end of the 2019 season, Turner was moved to the special assistant to the head coach.
The Raiders are hoping Turner can help an offense that ranks 29th in the NFL in total yards per game and 26th in points per game. The Raiders’ lack of offensive production is a big reason the Raiders have a 2-7 record in the first half of the 2024 season.

Can Norv Turner get the Raiders back on track?
“I just want to see us, like I always talked about, us looking right,” Raiders head coach Antonio Pierce said, per the team’s official website. “Sounding right, matching the philosophy and idea of what I preach, which is physicality, ability to run the ball, taking shots down the field, protecting the football first and foremost, disciplined up front. I think what we’re going to do going forward, we’ve got to deal with what we have to.
“Obviously, we’re dealing with injuries. A lot of new players are in and out of the lineup. We’ve got to do what’s best and gives us the best opportunity to win, whatever that may be. If it’s throwing the ball 60 times, fine, if it’s running it 60 times, fine, but we’ve got to find a balance and an identity on offense going forward.”
