The Las Vegas Raiders released veteran cornerback Marcus Peters on Monday following the team’s 31-17 loss against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week 12. Peters, a starter, was in his first season with the Raiders after hitting the free agency market this offseason when his contract with Baltimore ran out.

Before his release, the former Washington standout was eighth on the Vegas defense in tackles with 43, including one tackle for loss. His lone interception this season came in the loss against the Detroit Lions at the end of October.

Peters tore his ACL three seasons ago but bounced back with 47 stops for the Ravens last season. Peters posted one interception in 2022, down from four, which he had in 2020, prior to his injury. He was on a three-year, $42 million deal with Baltimore.

At 30 years old, Peters still has something to offer an NFL in need of a veteran presence in the secondary. Despite playing in all 12 games so far for the Raiders, the team benched him on Sunday versus the Chiefs.

The move to release him saves Las Vegas $1.5 million in incentives that he was on track to earn this year. According to Raiders reporter Vincent Bonsignore, the team was close to releasing Peters at multiple points during the first 12 weeks of the year. Peters’ former team posted 298 receiving yards on the Raiders defense on Sunday.

Raiders safety arrested for DUI before Chiefs game

The Las Vegas Raiders returned safety Roderic Teamer from injured reserve this week, but the former Tulane standout did not play in Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs. According to multiple reports, Teamer was arrested on Sunday morning for DUI after police pulled him over for speeding. Teamer was arrested on his way to the team hotel before team curfew, a source told ESPN.

Though he was released hours after his arrest, the team still ruled him inactive for the Week 12 game.

The 26-year-old safety is playing the 2023 season with the Raiders on a one-year deal for $1.01 million. In 2020, he received a four-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, forfeiting $159,294 of his 2020 salary while he was with the Los Angeles Chargers. After a stint with the Colts, he signed a deal to join the Raiders in 2021.

Prior to the hamstring injury that put him on IR, Teamer had five tackles in six games played. In 2022, he had 40 tackles, including one tackle for loss, while appearing in all 17 regular season games.

The team ended up releasing Teamer on Monday, according to interim head coach Antonio Pierce.
