Layne Riggs rips 'sad' state of NASCAR Truck Series racing at Martinsville

Last night, during the Truck Series race at Martinsville, Layne Riggs found himself knocked around more than a few times. Riggs is a NASCAR driver who comes from the short-track ranks. So, why was he upset after the 200-lap race?
Layne Riggs might have had a truck capable of winning on Friday night. When you consider the fact that Corey Heim, Ty Majeski, and Kaden Honeycutt all wrecked from the lead or while racing for the lead at the end of the race – it only makes Riggs’ chances of winning go up.
The Martinsville Truck Series race was interesting. We saw a huge green flag run in Stage 2. Then, it was caution after caution late in the race. Still, the Truck Series has gone almost 20 races without an overtime restart.
Talking to Scotte Sprinkle of Short Track Scene, Layne Riggs got honest about the race. Even as a short track racer, he doesn’t enjoy the racing at Martinsville. Not just for the Trucks Series but the two other national series as well.
“I think kerfuffle was the best way to put it. That was our whole night. You know, I said it earlier, I’m a short track guy and I love short track racing, but I hate this race track. At a national series level. It’s really sad when the late model race here is the cleanest one there is. It’s just so crazy in the Truck Series.

“You’re just doing everything right, you’re running your right line, you’re running the bottom, protecting the bottom like you should be. Then, the guy that’s five back hits him, he hits him, he hits him, and then you get hit andthen you get spun around. It’s like, who do you even get mad at at that point? And then you’re doing everything right, it’s just really, just annoying. It’s really just annoying. Because you’re doing everything right, you’ve got fast trucks and then…”
Layne Riggs has a point. The leaders wrecked twice. That is not something you normally see. The fact it happened both times during a restart is telling. These drivers were pushing too hard at the wrong time.
Corey Heim was dominant. Kaden Honeycutt felt he had to make an aggressive move to have a chance to win. The only problem is, did he have a chance to win? Heim cut a tire racing Honeycutt and hit the outside wall. He rallied back to P6.
Then Honeycutt and Ty Majeski wrecked racing each other. Too impatient, too eager. Instead of any of those drivers winning, Daniel Hemric picked up the pieces and took home the grandfather clock.
