Layne Riggs separates shoulder in post-race celebration at Milwaukee Mile
Layne Riggs scored the upset victory in Sunday’s LiUNA! 175 at The Milwaukee Mile but injured his shoulder celebrating atop his No. 38 Ford F-150.
Riggs said in Victory Lane that he dislocated his right shoulder while doing his celebratory fist bumps. As his team came out to celebrate with him, you could see Riggs was in some degree of pain as he hopped down from the hood of his truck. A member of his team helped him put his dislocated shoulder back in place before the celebrating resumed.
“I dislocated my shoulder I was celebrating so hard,” Riggs told FOX Sports. “It hurts like a mug, but it was worth it. It’s not the first time it’s happened to me but it ain’t gonna slow me down.”
Layne Riggs scores first career NASCAR Truck Series victory
Perhaps Riggs will have to address that at some point this week but for now, the party is on for the 22-year-old Truck Series rookie after winning his first career race in NASCAR. Riggs missed out on the playoffs despite a strong finish to the regular season, entering Milwaukee 15th in the points standings. He wasn’t exactly a trendy pick to win the first playoff race on the calendar, making the moment all that more special for him.

“I don’t even know how to describe it,” Riggs said. “Biggest thing I can do is just thank Zorn which was on the truck this weekend. It was their first race and it’s awesome for them and Love’s Travel Stops. … It’s awesome. Thank you to Bob Jenkins [and] Jerry Freeze for letting me drive this truck. It’s been no surprise that we’ve had a terrible year. It’s been an awful year.
“I’ve learned so much though in my rookie season and after the start I thought, ‘There’s no way we’re gonna get a win. We’ll do the best we can but we’re just learning for next year.’ But I knew in practice this thing was pretty awesome. So, I couldn’t be more thankful to Front Row [Motorsports] and everybody on this team. We have a good time together and we’re a family now.”
