Bronny James is still getting the typical rookie treatment from the Los Angeles Lakers, including his dad. LeBron James posted a video on social media Tuesday of a prank he pulled on his son ahead of the team’s season opener against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

LeBron was seen filling up Bronny’s car with Fruity Pebbles cereal, pouring in the final box before his son came outside to leave. When Bronny opened the door, all of the cereal spilled out as a smiling LeBron pulled up in his own vehicle.

“Hey, rook, you better not be late,” he said.

Bronny was drafted 55th by the Lakers in the 2024 NBA Draft after spending one season at USC. He averaged 4.8 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists this past year in 25 games for the Trojans.

He is expected to come off of the bench this year for the Lakers as he hopes to show he is more than just a name in his rookie season. He certainly has a lot of attention on him due to his father’s legacy. LeBron is often debated as being the best player in NBA history as he is a four-time champion who is the league’s all-time leading scorer.

We’ll see what kind of start Bronny can have to his pro career tonight. Tip-off between the Lakers and Timberwolves is set for 10 p.m. ET in Los Angeles.

“With my son, obviously, it’s a dream come true for me,” James told reporters over the summer. “To see my son – to be able to be in the NBA alone, it’s always been a dream of his. For us to be side-by-side a lot of words [are] lost, to be honest.”

LeBron James reflected on Bronny’s journey and said it added to the special nature of him being drafted by the Lakers.

“The kid has worked so hard to get to this point,” James said. “There’s just so much that’s happened over the last year with him. To have this happen less than a year from his incident, to be with our friends and our family when they announced his name, it was something that was super surreal and our family still doesn’t even have enough words to explain the feeling that we have. Just such a great kid, and I’m looking forward to seeing his progression and him continuing to get better and better as he continues to grow as a young man.

“He’s 19 years old, so he has so much room for improvement. Looking forward to helping him improve, I know the coaching staff is helping him improve and everybody on the team. It’ll be fun.”
