LeBron James shows support for Bryce Young following quarterback's benching
After just two games in the NFL season, the Carolina Panthers have decided to bench Bryce Young. The former No. 1 overall pick is in his second season in the league but will watch the Week 3 matchup against the Oakland Raiders from the bench. Veteran quarterback Andy Dalton will be under center instead.
There has been some support for Young since the news broke, with Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James being the latest. James sent a tweet out to encourage Young to continue to work, believing he will break through at some point. Not a bad piece of motivation for somebody originally from Southern California.
“Bryce Young hold ya head Young!! Rooting for you and know this ain’t on you! Continue to put the work in and it shall prevail!” James said via X.
Carolina traded a lot of draft capital to select Young with the top pick in the 2023 NFL Draft. Results have been pretty, no matter who is at fault for the past 19 games. Young has completed under 60% of his throws for 3,122 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions. Most importantly, the Panthers have won just two games.

As of now, there are no public plans from the Panthers to completely move on from Young. He will be Dalton’s backup and who knows, maybe there is a path back to the field at some point. But speculation has begun about where the former Alabama product could play down the road.
ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky suggested trading him out West, potentially linking Young and James up in Los Angeles.
“No, I think Bryce is done in Carolina,” Orlovsky said on The Pat McAfee Show. “And I would encourage them, implore them, (to) just trade him. You’re not making this move, unless you have, one, already decided as a group, as an organization ‘Hey, we’re moving on,’ or you’re gonna lose your locker room if you keep playing him. I think he’s done in Carolina, I’ve seen it floated around, you know, the Dolphins. If I were the Los Angeles Rams, I would probably make a call.”
Young attended Santa Ana (CA) Mater Dei and was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect and ranked No. 2 overall in the 2020 recruiting class. Alabama was where his college ball was played, winning the Heisman Trophy his first year as the starter. Rarely do we see those types of players flame out so quickly in the NFL but James has faith in the young quarterback.
