Ricky Stenhouse Jr. sure didn’t endear himself to the fans at Bowman Gray Stadium during Sunday’s Last Chance Qualifier for The Clash.

With 13 laps remaining in the 75-lap feature, Stenhouse got into the back of Burt Myers, the 11-time Bowman Gray Stadium Modified Champion. Myers went nose-first into the wall in what was a big hit for the 49-year-old. The Madhouse crowd didn’t appreciate seeing their driver get dumped like that, and made sure to let Stenhouse have it as the red flag came out.

As Stenhouse came to a stop on the racetrack, fans treated him to a healthy dose of middle fingers.

The damage ended Myers’ night and kept him from having a shot to advance to the 200-lap Clash. Myers told Jamie Little of FOX Sports that while his car wasn’t as good as he felt he needed to advance, he started to get into a groove before Stenhouse wrecked him.

Burt Myers explains what led to contact with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. in Last Chance Qualifier at Bowman Gray

“The experience has been awesome,” Myers said. “I tried to bide my time, and we didn’t have the car we thought we needed to get the job done completely there at the end, we were picking them off one at a time and I think we gained four or five spots there. I got shoved into the 47 [Stenhouse] and pushed him out. When I got under him, I don’t know if he was upset about that or what. But we ended up hitting the wall. I’ll have to watch the replay to know exactly what happened. But I do know it was an orange car that ran into me. So, I’m assuming 47.”

Little presented him with a replay. Upon further review, “it was definitely the 47,” Myers said.

“It was definitely the 47. … His bumper and I’m in the infield, so I guess that tells the story,” Myers said. “It was an awesome experience. I just hate for it to end the way it did… but we had a great time.”
