The offseason has been off to a busy start for Leigh Diffey. Since the end of the Cup Series season, Diffey has had leg surgery. He is now recovering at home ahead of the 2025 NASCAR season.

Good thing that NBC won’t pick up NASCAR coverage until the second half of next season. But Diffey will likely have IMSA duties soon with the Daytona 24 Hours.

While he has time to rest, it’s good to see he’s well on his way already. His leg is fixed and Leigh Diffey has his new ice water pump to keep it all cool and healing quickly.

If you’ve never had one of those ice water pumps on your leg before, it’s wonderful. Of course, needing one likely means you have gone through a traumatic injury or surgery. But it is a nice machine to have if you need one.

Leigh Diffey basically has a cool suit on his leg right now. Let’s hope his is more reliable than the ones that NASCAR drivers use in the car.

Late this season, NBC decided to put Diffey in as the lead play-by-play announcer in the booth. He replaced Rick Allen who covered the Xfinity Series to close out the season. We should expect more Diffey in 2025, too.

Leigh Diffey delivered iconic calls immediately in NASCAR

If we go back to the 2024 NASCAR Playoffs and just before, Leigh Diffey hit the ground running. His call of Harrison Burton winning the Daytona race will go down in history. His call of Tyler Reddick at Homestead-Miami.

Just to show off his historical knowledge, Diffey delivered an epic call at Watkins Glen. That race saw Shane van Gisbergen and Chris Buescher beat and bang to the finish. Shades of Ambrose and Keselowski from years ago, as Diffey smartly pointed out in real-time.

There were so many great moments in such a short time. Diffey is only going to give NASCAR fans more in 2025. His knowledge of motorsport and excitement for the action on the track is contagious.

For drivers and announcers alike, the offseason is surgery season. Best of luck on the recovery and hopefully, it all goes smoothly. There are more epic calls to make and a lot more fun to have next year.
