Logan Seavey blasts Ricky Stenhouse Jr. temper, mocks Kyle Busch fight after collision
After their post-checkered flag collision in the Chili Bowl qualifier, Ricky Stenhouse said he hadn’t yet spoken with Logan Seavey about what happened. Speaking with reporters, Seavey sounded none too pleased with what transpired and brought up Stenhouse’s altercation with Kyle Busch.
The two cars collided after the checkered flag came down in the Midget Qualifier 1, although Stenhouse said he was trying to tag Seavey for something that happened earlier in the race. He wasn’t trying to flip him, but rather “repay” some frustration.
As Seavey saw it, he could’ve handled the race a lot differently with Stenhouse. As he looked back on the situation, he didn’t hold back when addressing what happened and called out Stenhouse’s temper.
“He kind of backed me up a lot of the race, which is just part of racing,” Seavey said. “He kind of spun in front of me. I cut him a lot of breaks there, and then at the last lap, I really got a hold of the bottom down the back stretch. … I’d cut him enough breaks, I felt like, throughout that race by lifting probably every lap for him out of the cushion. I kind of saw that coming after I saw [Chris] Windom last night. To full-on iRacing, full-throttle somebody after the checkered, he’s supposed to be a professional race car driver and control his emotions. He has corporate sponsors. I think a lot of people should be embarrassed by that action.
“Man, if you want to tap somebody in the back bumper and tell them you didn’t like that or if he wants to come down here – I told Flo, if he’s that mad and he thinks I did him that dirty, he punched Kyle Busch in the face a few weeks ago. At least come talk to me, and if you still feel like it’s worth fighting for, then whatever. iRacing, full-throttled me after the checkered. The engine was full-throttle, his tire was nearly in my cockpit. It’s unacceptable. It’s truly bull, in my opinion. Shouldn’t allow it. They cracked down on a lot of rules this year. I don’t see how they just let something like that go. I’d be pretty disappointed if they do. That sets a precedent for everybody at this point.”
Logan Seavey: ‘It’s just unacceptable’
Logan Seavey wound up finishing fourth in the qualifier, one spot ahead of Ricky Stenhouse. Although he noted the emotions of the race, Seavey also acknowledged the fact Stenhouse is a professional NASCAR driver. That’s another reason he called out his conduct after the race.
“I don’t know if they’re doing anything,” Seavey said. “I don’t know anything about it. There’s a lot of eyes on this race – probably more than ever. We’ve got a professional race car driver here. In reality – obviously, he wants to win this race – but he’s here for fun, like a lot of us. Nobody’s getting rich here. I get it. Everyone’s emotional at this race.

“I’m not fully justifying myself and saying I’m clearing myself by any means. But to whatever happens after the checkered is not cool. … I hope he’s embarrassed. I’m embarrassed to even be part of the situation. It’s just a bad light on all of dirt racing, on the Chili Bowl. It’s just unacceptable to drive into somebody’s cockpit after the race.”
More on the post-qualifier collision at the Chili Bowl
Ricky Stenhouse’s intent wasn’t to flip Logan Seavey’s car, but rather to “repay” some earlier frustration. He pointed out something that happened earlier in the race when Seavey tried to use him up, and he was just trying to tag him. Stenhouse knows how important each spot is in the qualifier and said he wasn’t trying to flip him.
“I got used up by Seavey and was gonna repay my frustrations with a tag to his rear bumper,” Stenhouse said afterward. “When he slowed down, I caught his left rear. Not ideal. Not what I was expecting to do. Was just gonna give him a shot to the rear bumper. Wasn’t really thrilled with – I thought he’s good enough here that he’d hit the bottom and not use me up for fourth. I don’t know. Watched all week. I should’ve expected it, I guess.
“I’d gotten back around him, but my angle was so far off for where he was, and my only option was over the curb. That gave us up a spot there coming into line, which is crucial. Wasn’t real thrilled about that, and not ideal after the race. More of was going to be a tag in the rear bumper.”
