Just getting selected to the Pro Bowl is still a big deal for players across the NFL. Atlanta Falcons converted running back Cordarrelle Patterson is a great example of this. He’s had a career year this year as an all-purpose threat for Atlanta, and he felt like his numbers were good enough for Pro Bowl consideration.

He wasn’t selected for the 2022 Pro Bowl and he decided to voice his displeasure by wearing some highly entertaining cleats in the Falcons game on Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

He gets extra points for the fur on the side of the cleats. His cleats were pretty cool, for sure. That’s the best part. Patterson definitely deserves points for the combination of red and green on his shoes, too.

He scored a rushing touchdown in Sunday’s game with 10:53 remaining in the second quarter. The score was his 11th touchdown of the season. It’s been a career year and it’s not even close for the former Tennessee Volunteer product.

He’s already hauled in over 40 catches for over 500 receiving yards, while bringing in five touchdowns. The real improvement he’s made this season is as a running back out of the backfield. He’s rushed 133 times for over 500 rushing yards and six touchdowns. In the past, he’s been known more for his elite ability as a kick returner. Patterson was named to the Pro Bowl as a kick returner in both 2019 and 2020.

Other Christmas cleats in NFL history

Sure, his shoes were really cool, but the coolest shoes of the weekend in the NFL definitely go to Marcedes Lewis, who had the wildest grinch cleats ever. They were bright neon green, with fur everywhere.

Lewis’ cleats are definitely one of the coolest Christmas designs ever. They are hilarious looking! Kudos to the designer and to Marcedes Lewis for actually wearing those cleats in a game!

This all wouldn’t be possible without the NFL finally relaxing its rules on cleats and their uniforms. It’s about time. The NFL has been called the No Fun League for years, and in some ways that phrase still fits. The NFL owners should have relaxed the cleat designs long, long ago. It allows for more individuality and personality.

Speaking of cleats in the NFL around Christmas time, New Orleans Saints superstar running back Alvin Kamara had some of the best cleats ever.

They were red and green and he paid a $5,000 fine to wear those cleats. Was it worth it? Absolutely. That’s pocket change to a player like Kamara. He even turned it into a positive and donated the money to charity. Once again, the Kamara cleat situation was just a classic example of the NFL being no fun.

It’ll be exciting to see what other cool cleat designs players can come up with in future years around Christmas time.
