Eli Manning flips off camera

Monday Night Football with Peyton and Eli has become well known for the constant jokes and lack of professional polish that a traditional NFL broadcast has. During their broadcast of the Dallas Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles, Eli Manning found a unique way to make a mistake on live television.

While recounting a story of how it felt to play in Philadelphia while talking to former Eagles defensive end Chris Long, Eli told a story about a nine-year-old kid that once flipped him off with both hands. Eli mistakenly repeated the gesture on live television during his story.

“You go to Philly and you’re getting the double bird right away from a nine-year-old kid and they’re saying things about my mom,” recounted Eli to laughter from Peyton and Long.

It didn’t take long for fans watching around the nation to point out his mistake and poke fun at the broadcast.

‘Manningcast’ big guest list

Announcing their guest list ahead of the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles game on Monday night, the Manning brothers had some big names join them.

Their first guest of the evening was quarterback Matthew Stafford, followed by LeBron James and Nick Saban where the brothers tried to find out everything they could about their football knowledge. Finishing the night was Chris Long, who was present for Eli Manning’s mistake.

Though the first broadcast of Peyton and Eli Manning’s alternate NFL broadcast received little attention, it generated enough interest from word of mouth and highlights to increase the next week.

For the week two Lions-Packers game, ESPN2 averaged 1.86 million viewers, a +132% increase from week one.

A major reason for the increase in popularity is the guest list the Mannings have had on Monday night. Ahead of Saban and James, they have already had a great mix of former and current professional athletes.

  • Charles Barkley
  • Ray Lewis
  • Rob Gronkowski
  • Travis Kelce
  • Russell Wilson
  • Pat McAfee
  • Brett Favre

The interesting guest list and knowledge of all involved make for a unique perspective on the traditional NFL viewing experience.
