Los Angeles Chargers sign Cameron Brown to free agent deal
Former Ohio State cornerback Cameron Brown has landed at his new NFL home. After declaring for the 2023 NFL Draft following a five-year career in Columbus, Brown was not selected but did reach an agreement with the Los Angeles Chargers on an undrafted free agent deal.
Brown’s entrance into the professional ranks comes on the heels of a long and injury-riddled career. Brown played in five different seasons but only appeared n one game in two of them while also never reaching 10 games played in any season at OSU. He did stay relatively healthy in his final two seasons and appeared in most of the Buckeyes’ games in ’21 and ’22, where he emerged as a veteran leader of the unit.
As for his stats, they definitely don’t jump off the page: just 55 career tackles, 12 pass deflections and one interception. But he really did develop into a dependable defensive back by the end of his collegiate career, which was enough to talk pro teams into giving him a shot at the next level.
Brown played high school football at St. Louis (MO) Christian Brothers College, where he was rated as a four-star prospect, according to the On3 Industry Rankings. He was also ranked as the No. 247 overall player and No. 5 player in Missouri for the 2018 class. .

What NFL Draft analysts are saying about Cameron Brown
NFL analyst Lance Zierlein broke down Harrison’s profile over on NFL.com, where he wrote the following about the former Buckeye star:
“Instinctive cover man with good size and strength but limited starting reps due to injuries. Brown plays the game with natural talent to pick up on route tells and read the quarterback. He can play man or zone, but is much better keeping the action in front of him than chasing it down the field. While he locates the deep ball and remains calm in the process, he might not have the speed or high-point talent to keep teams from picking on him deep. He’s tough and willing in run support. Brown should have a career as a backup with some upside if he can stay healthy.”
Again, staying healthy will be key for him. But if he can, his past play shows a dependable defensive back who can hold his own in coverage and excel in run stoppage. There’s a lot of optimism Brown can stick somewhere on the field as a defensive back in the NFL.
