Report: Los Angeles Chargers to sign DT Da'Shawn Hand to one-year deal

Former Alabama defensive tackle Da’Shawn Hand is on the move in NFL free agency. Hand has reportedly agreed to terms with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network reported the deal, which he said is for one year worth up to $3.35 million. Hand spent the last two years with the Miami Dolphins.
Originally a fourth-round pick out of Alabama by the Detroit Lions, Da’Shawn Hand has become a journeyman of sorts. He has suited up for four different NFL teams already, with the Chargers set to become his fifth.
Hand is coming off his most statistically productive season. In Miami, he played in 17 games for the first time in his career in 2024.
He tallied 31 tackles, a sack, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a pass defended. Per ESPN, he had a career-high six stuffs. That’s the kind of production the Chargers will be hoping they get and can build on.
While at Alabama, Da’Shawn Hand was a two-time national champion (2015 and 2017). He earned second-team All-SEC honors in both 2016 and 2017.

Chargers add another former Alabama player
Da’Shawn Hand isn’t the only former Crimson Tide player recently inked by the Los Angeles Chargers. They also signed running back Najee Harris to a one-year contract, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. The deal is worth $9.25 million.
Harris, 27, finds a new home in Los Angeles after spending the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Harris leaves the Steelers with 1,097 attempts to his name for 4,312 yards (3.9 yards per carry) and 28 touchdowns.
One of the more durable backs in the NFL, Harris hasn’t missed a game in his career. He’s the only tailback with 1,000 rushing yards in each of the last four seasons. Despite the numbers, Pittsburgh declined his fifth-year option last summer.
“I was disappointed for a minute, but I mean like, there’s nothing really where, you know, me sitting around being disappointed for too long would do anything to help me out,” Harris said of his fifth-year option not being picked up. “… I think that it is what it is. And you just got to keep it pushing and knowing that coming out here and doing what’s best for the team and having a good year is what’s most important right now. … Yeah, I was [disappointed] for a minute, like a couple of days, and it just went past my mind so fast.”
