Miami is hopeful that it will be the host city for Super Bowl LXI in 2027, but faces a potential challenger in Los Angeles. According to a report from the Palm Beach Post, those two cities are battling it out for the honor.

South Florida Super Bowl Bid Committee chairman Rodney Barreto seems to think Miami has a good shot to win out.

“We obviously want to get a game back to Miami,” he said. “We believe we had a very successful last Super Bowl and the world shut down after that Super Bowl.”

Barreto’s comments come after Los Angeles Rams Chief Operating Officer said last month that the city is “interested” in hosting Super Bowl LXI. LA also hosted Super LVI in 2022, which the Rams won 23-20 over the Cincinnati Bengals at SoFi Stadium.

The Post writes that Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium would be “better equipped” to host the Super Bowl in 2027. The venue already features annual events with Formula 1 racing and the Miami Open tennis tournament. It also already has two huge attractions slated for 2026: the FIFA World Cup and College Football Playoff Championship.

Miami has hosted more Super Bowls than any other city with 11. It hosted three of the first five Super Bowls ever (1968, 1969 and 1971) as well as in 2020 when Kansas City defeated San Francisco 31-20. Florida also hosted the 2021 Super Bowl, which took place in Tampa Bay.

More on potential host sites for future Super Bowls

Miami and Los Angeles aren’t the only cities hoping to host the Super Bowl in the near future, however. The Tennessee Titans are set to open a new 60,000-seat stadium in 2027 and has already expressed interest in bringing big-time events to the city.

“It’s going to a beautiful world-class facility for Titans fans, and for everyone who comes to that stadium for concerts and soccer games,” Titans president Burke Nihill said. “The world’s biggest events, it’s very reasonable to be believing they’ll be coming to Nashville starting in 2027.”

The host cities for the next two Super Bowls are set. Super Bowl LVIII is slated for this upcoming season in Las Vegas while Super Bowl LVIX is headed for New Orleans in 2025.

The NFL are set to meet next week in Minneapolis. There they are expected to make a decision on a host city for the 2026 Super Bowl. Ben Fischer of Sports Business Journal reported that San Francisco is the likely pick.

It’s unclear whether the site of the 2027 Super Bowl will be decided at the meeting. If it isn’t, it would be pushed back until next year’s owners’ meeting.
