Los Angeles Rams trading OL Jonah Jackson to Chicago Bears

The Los Angeles Rams are trading offensive lineman Jonah Jackson to the Chicago Bears, per Courtney Cronin of ESPN.

As part of the trade, Los Angeles is acquiring a 2025 sixth round pick. The Bears are taking on Jackson’s remaining contract — he’s due $9 million in fully guaranteed base salary for 2025, then $17 million (non-guaranteed) in 2026, according to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated.

Chicago’s No. 1 objective this offseason was to beef up its offensive line. Jackson helps the cause, and the 28-year-old reunites with Ben Johnson. Johnson, now the Bears’ head coach, was previously offensive coordinator for the Detroit Lions. Jackson played under Johnson for the entirety of his four-year career with the Lions.

Jackson started 40 games at left guard in Detroit, earning Pro Bowl honors in 2021. He signed a three-year, $51 million deal with the Rams last offseason, but played in just four games this past season at right guard and center. Jackson missed time after fracturing his scapula in Week 2. He played in just one game after returning from injured reserve and was then benched. Pro Football Focus gave him a 67.5 grade across 266 snaps.

Rams find trade partner for Jonah Jackson

Los Angeles gave him permission to seek a trade.

“I really appreciate Jonah on how he handled [the situation],” Rams head coach Sean McVay said in his end-of-season press conference. “A starting-level player… there are a lot of teams that would love to have Jonah Jackson at guard. … He put the team first in terms of just showing up, going to work and being a really good ‘scout teamer.'”

By trading Jackson before June 1, the Rams will take on $11.3 million in dead money.
