Los Angeles Rams, Tutu Atwell agree to one-year, $10 million extension

The Los Angeles Rams and wide receiver Tutu Atwell have come together and reportedly reached a new contract. It will be for one year and $10 million. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, it’s a fully guaranteed deal.
Now 25 years old, Atwell was selected by the Rams in the second round of the 2021 NFL Draft out of Louisville. Since then, he’s spent his entire professional career with Los Angeles. That includes being a part of the team that would go on to win the Super Bowl.
In 2024, Atwell appeared in all 17 games for the Rams and had five starts. He’d be targeted 62 times in the passing game, snagging 42 receptions for 562 yards, or 13.4 yards per reception. That was a career-high in receiving yards and yards per reception. He didn’t catch any touchdowns in 2024 but does have four for his career. Los Angeles has also occasionally used him in the rushing game throughout his career.
This comes in what has been an interesting offseason for the Los Angeles Rams as they look to retool the offense. That has included the decision to move on from star wide receiver Cooper Kupp. It was Kupp himself who made it public that the team intends on trading him this offseason. Kupp has a cap hit of $29.78 million in 2025. So, there is hope Atwell can continue to improve and replace his production while opening up options with more salary cap space.

There were also questions for Los Angeles about the quarterback position. Veteran Matthew Stafford was given permission by the Rams to seek a trade with other teams around the NFL and, for a time, it seemed like that was going to happen too. However, the two sides were able to come together and reportedly work toward a restructured contract.
The decision to bring Stafford back means Atwell will continue to play alongside the only quarterback he’s ever had in the NFL. It’s likely not the only factor that led to his decision to return, but that kind of relationship is important to players.
The roster that the Rams have now certainly won’t be the one they bring into Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season. Along with free agency and trades, Los Angeles still has the 2025 NFL Draft to continue adding to its talented roster. Still, for the time being, it looks like much is expected of Tutu Atwell in the wide receiver room while Puka Nacua will also look to star for the Rams.
