Los Angeles wildfires: NFL reveals contingency plan, status of Rams-Vikings playoff matchup
The NFL has revealed a contingency plan if the playoff game between the Los Angeles Rams vs. Minnesota Vikings game needs to be moved due to the wildfires. The league said it would move the game to Arizona, if necessary.
“The NFL’s priority is the safety of the Los Angeles community. We are grateful for the tireless efforts of the first responders. Our hearts are with Los Angeles and everyone affected by the fires,” the NFL said in a statement.
“We continue to prepare to play the Vikings-Rams game as scheduled Monday night at SoFi Stadium. As with all games, there are contingency plans in the event a change in location is needed. In this instance, the game would be played on Monday night at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, AZ, if necessary. We will continue to closely monitor developments in the area and will remain in contact with public officials, both clubs and the NFLPA.”
Multiple wildfires tore through the Los Angeles area on Wednesday, destroying more than 1,000 structures and klling at least two people. Three major blazes were burning in the metro Los Angeles area, from the Pacific Coast inland to Pasadena, home of the Rose Bowl.

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles Chargers announced they will provide $200,000 in targeted funding to the American Red Cross, LA Fire Department Foundation, Team Rubicon and pet rescue organizations sheltering animals displaced by the fires.
“While we’re currently experiencing unprecedented conditions that seemingly cannot get any worse as we deal with multiple fires across our region, we’re also witnessing our community at its very best,” Chargers owner Dean Spanos said in a statement, per NFL.com. “The bravery, selflessness, courage, sacrifice and compassion on display over the past 24 hours by first responders, good Samaritans, friends, family and neighbors alike has been remarkable. Our hearts are with everyone who has been displaced by these fires, the firemen and police officers and frontline workers who are risking their lives to keep us safe and those among us who have stepped up to assist one another in this incredible time of need.”
The Rams vs. Vikings game is scheduled to kick off on Monday at 8 p.m. ET (5 p.m. local time) at SoFi Stadium. It will air on ESPN, ABC, ESPN2, ESPN+ and ESPN Deportes.
