Clemson has been clicking on all cylinders on offense as of late, despite being without two of its top receivers in Bryant Wesco and Tyler Brown. The now-No. 9 Tigers just poured on 48 points in a three-score win against Virginia, meaning they’ve recorded 40 or more points in five of their six games since a disappointing season-opening loss to now-No. 2 Georgia.

Following a comfortable victory over the visiting Cavaliers this past weekend, Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney provided updates on Brown and Wesco.

Brown suffered an ankle injury in Week 2 against Appalachian State. The sophomore returned three weeks later and played 22 offensive snaps versus Stanford, and then 18 more the next week at Florida State, according to Pro Football Focus.

Brown, a three-star product of nearby Greenville High School, led the Tigers in receptions (52) and receiving yards (531) as a true freshman last year. So far in limited snaps this season, he’s tallied just five catches and 30 receiving yards.

Swinney revealed postgame this past Saturday that Brown had TightRope surgery.

“Tyler, we did the TightRope,” Swinney said. “Those just vary. I mean, we did it on [former defensive tackle] Tyler Davis, and I think he was back in two weeks. So I think it just kind of depends on the person. We’re hopeful, especially with an open date, that he’s going to make some really good strides.

“He was doing good, but he just kind of plateaued, and we just couldn’t get him over the hump, so they made that decision. Hopefully that’ll help him, kind of that last little piece of healing.”

While Brown’s recovery timeline isn’t clear, Wesco’s is more promising.

The true freshman wideout got banged up in Week 6 at FSU. He missed the Wake Forest game in Week 7 as well as the UVA game in Week 8.

Before that, he had reeled in 11 passes for 262 yards and two touchdowns. Wesco, the On3 Industry Ranking’s No. 13 wideout in the 2024 class, has emerged as a big-play threat in his first year with the Tigers.

“We’re hopeful after the open date he’s ready to go,” Swinney said of Wesco. “He’s doing everything he needs to do. So we’ll know more probably next Monday when we get into Louisville week.”
